EUROS 2024: England Secure Spot in Euro 2024 Last 16

  • 25/06/2024 - 07:30

Is it finally coming home? The popular Three Lions Song by Baddiel and Skinner and the Lightning Seeds was first sung in the 1996 European Championship. After close to three decades, can Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, and Phil Foden finally finish the job and bring football back to England.

England have clinched a place in the last 16 of Euro 2024 with a game to spare, thanks to Spain's 1-0 win over Albania on Monday.

Spain's victory also ensured that the Netherlands and France advance from Group D into the knockout stage.

England, with four points from a 1-0 win against Serbia and a 1-1 draw with Denmark, are guaranteed to move on regardless of their final Group C match against Slovenia on Tuesday in Cologne (20:00 BST).

If England beat Slovenia, they will top Group C. A draw could also see them finish first if Denmark fails to beat Serbia. In case of a tie on points, goal difference and goals scored will determine the group winner.

Even if they finish third, England's place in the knockout phase is assured, as Albania's defeat means they will be one of the four best third-placed teams.

Had Albania beaten Spain, England would have had to wait until Tuesday for their qualification. However, Spain's strength proved decisive.

Who Can England Play in the Last 16?

If England win Group C, they will play on Sunday at 17:00 BST in Gelsenkirchen against a third-placed team from Group D, Group E, or Group F. Potential opponents include Austria from Group D, Romania, Belgium, Slovakia, or Ukraine from Group E, and the Czech Republic or Georgia from Group F.
