Manchester United winger Antony has completed a loan move to Spanish side Real Betis for the rest of the season, pending international clearance.
The deal sees Betis cover at least 84% of Antony’s salary and bonuses, but there’s no option for the La Liga club to make the transfer permanent.
Manchester United confirmed the move in a statement: "Everybody at United would like to wish Antony the best of luck for his spell in Seville."
Antony will now play under former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini at Betis, who are competing in La Liga and the UEFA Conference League.
The Brazilian winger previously faced Betis during United’s pre-season clash in the United States last July. Antony featured in the second half of the 3-2 win for his parent club.
Antony joined United from Ajax in September 2022 for £86 million, making him the second-most expensive signing in the club’s history. His arrival reunited him with Erik ten Hag, his former boss at Ajax.
Although Antony has shown flashes of brilliance at Old Trafford, he’s struggled to deliver consistently. United hope the loan spell will provide him with valuable first-team opportunities before reassessing his future in the summer.
This move offers a fresh start for Antony, while Pellegrini will aim to unlock the winger’s potential as Betis continue to push in both domestic and European competitions.
Antony’s progress in Seville could be key in shaping his Manchester United career.
