Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence that his Arsenal side will be ready to capitalise should Premier League leaders Liverpool falter in the title race.
Despite Liverpool pulling nine points clear with a dominant 5-0 win over West Ham, Arteta’s Arsenal remain determined. With a game in hand favouring Liverpool, the Gunners face an uphill battle, but their 11-match unbeaten streak, including eight wins, suggests they are hitting their stride at the perfect time.
When asked about Arsenal’s chances of catching Liverpool, Arteta remained focused:
"I don't know, and that doesn't depend on us. We have to continue to be like a hammer—be there every day, every day, every day. If somebody wins all the matches, congratulate them and move to the next season. But if they don’t, and history shows that hasn’t happened, we’ll be there."
Close but Not Enough?
Arsenal have come agonisingly close to glory in recent seasons. They narrowly missed out on the title in 2022/23 and fell short to Manchester City again last year, despite an incredible run of 11 wins in their final 13 games.
Arteta is adamant his team is ready to take the next step:
"What we've proven this season, which we couldn’t last season, is how we handle adversity—playing with 10 men, managing injuries. This team has evolved, adapted, and made another step forward. Now we face the challenge of playing more games with fewer players. Let’s face it."
Brentford’s Injury Struggles
Arsenal’s next challenge comes against Brentford, who have endured a torrid time with injuries. While their home form is one of the league’s best—seven wins in nine games—they’ve struggled away, sitting bottom of the form table with no road victories.
Manager Thomas Frank is missing key players like Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer, and record signing Igor Thiago. Long-term injuries to Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, and Josh Dasilva have also added to their problems.
However, there’s some relief as Sepp van den Berg and Mathias Jensen are fit to return against Arsenal.
"The news is more positive, and they will be in the squad," said Frank. "They’ve been out for quite a while, so we’ll decide whether they will start."
The Title Race Continues
With Liverpool showing no signs of slowing down, Arsenal know they’ll need perfection to keep their title hopes alive. But with their recent form and Arteta’s belief in his squad, the Gunners remain poised to strike if the door opens.
The clash with Brentford will be another test of their resolve—and an opportunity to stay in the hunt.
