Bernardo Silva has delivered a sobering verdict on Manchester City's faltering campaign, admitting the club’s Premier League title hopes are effectively over after a disastrous run of results.
What Happened?
Since the end of October, City have been stuck in an alarming slump. The reigning champions have won just two of their last 14 matches across all competitions, suffering nine defeats and three draws. This poor form has left them languishing in sixth place on the Premier League table, with 31 points from 19 matches—14 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.
The Bigger Picture
City's troubles extend beyond the domestic stage. In the Champions League, Guardiola's side is teetering on the brink of elimination. Currently 22nd in the group stage rankings, City managed just two wins in six matches, alongside two draws and two losses, signalling an underwhelming European campaign.
What Bernardo Silva Said
Speaking candidly to Sky Sports, Silva acknowledged the harsh reality of City's situation:
"Right now, it's about accepting the reality. I'm not looking at Liverpool, I'm sixth or seventh in the league. I cannot be looking at Liverpool or Arsenal or whatever. I'm looking right now at the next game, try and win three points to be fifth, to be fourth, and to be third. And then ten games from the end of the season, you can start making a little bit of math to see where you can go."
On City’s chances of a comeback, Silva was blunt:
"I would say [the Premier League title is] not impossible because in football there are no impossibles, but right now, Man City is completely out of the title race. There's no question about that. It's too late for us. People always say that you don't win a league until January, but you can lose it, and this season, the reality is we've lost it."
What’s Next for Manchester City?
With the title race slipping out of reach, City’s focus will likely shift to securing a top-four finish and salvaging their European campaign. Their next chance to regain some form comes on Saturday against West Ham in the Premier League—a match they must win to restore momentum and confidence.
While their season isn’t completely lost, Guardiola’s side faces a monumental task to salvage success from a campaign that’s quickly unraveling.
