Chelsea are weighing up a move for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho before the transfer window closes. The 20-year-old Argentine has been on the Blues’ radar for some time, and a deal could materialise either in January or during the summer window.
While reports from Argentina suggest Chelsea have already made an official bid, sources in England indicate no formal offer has been tabled yet. The club is reportedly only interested in pursuing Garnacho if the deal aligns with their financial terms and valuation.
Relations between Chelsea and United remain strong at senior levels, which could aid negotiations.
Garnacho’s Appeal
Chelsea are actively exploring attacking options, particularly with Mykhailo Mudryk suspended by the FA after failing a drugs test. In addition, the futures of Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix at Stamford Bridge remain uncertain.
Napoli, another club keen on Garnacho, had been seen as front-runners in the race. However, their focus has reportedly shifted to Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, creating a potential opening for Chelsea.
The Price Tag
Napoli have been in discussions with United over Garnacho, with meetings held this week between United’s director of football negotiations, Matt Hargreaves, and the Serie A club.
United initially valued Garnacho at £60m (€75m) but are now willing to consider offers of no less than £55m (€65m). Napoli, however, are hesitant to go beyond £46.5m (€55m). Chelsea have been made aware of this price gap and are keeping a close eye on proceedings.
Family Ties and Future Decisions
Garnacho is reportedly reluctant to leave Old Trafford and isn’t actively seeking an exit. Napoli manager Antonio Conte has been vocal about his desire to bring Garnacho to Naples, highlighting the allure of Serie A, the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, and the passionate Napoli fanbase.
However, Chelsea remain optimistic about their chances. Garnacho’s young family is settled in England, and a domestic move might feel less disruptive than relocating abroad.
Chelsea’s Patience
For now, Chelsea appear to be biding their time. Garnacho’s agents, Carlos Cambeiro and Quique De Lucas, were spotted at Stamford Bridge during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Wolves earlier this week, fuelling speculation about a potential move.
Ultimately, Manchester United are determined not to sell Garnacho below their valuation, regardless of the buyer. While Napoli’s pursuit is considered more advanced, Chelsea’s interest remains serious, and their next steps could prove pivotal as the clock ticks down on the transfer window.
