Get your tickets to see David Moyes lead Everton in a new era after his successful stints at West Ham ...
David Moyes has been appointed Everton manager for the second time, taking the reins at a critical moment in the club's history.
The Scot, whose first tenure at Everton from 2002 to 2013 earned him widespread acclaim, replaces Sean Dyche, who was dismissed following a five-game winless run. Moyes’ remarkable work during his first spell at Goodison Park earned him the Manchester United job in 2013, but a turbulent stint at Old Trafford saw him sacked within a season.
Brief spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland followed, but Moyes restored his managerial reputation in two successful terms at West Ham. He guided the Hammers to safety in 2017-18 and returned in 2019 for a transformative five-year stint. His leadership saw West Ham qualify for Europe three times and claim their first major trophy in 43 years, winning the Europa Conference League in 2023.
Everton Chairman: Moyes the "Right Leader"
Everton’s Executive Chairman, Marc Watts, expressed confidence in Moyes’ ability to lead the club into a new chapter:
"We are pleased that David is joining us at this pivotal time in Everton’s history. With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to propel us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium. We look forward to working with David to build the foundation of a new era for Everton."
Moyes’ return comes after Everton parted ways with Dyche, whose two-year tenure ended with the club teetering above the relegation zone. Everton’s struggles were compounded by their inability to score, managing just one goal during their winless streak.
Challenges Ahead for Moyes
Moyes’ first game back in charge will be a home clash against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday. He inherits a squad in need of revitalisation as they aim to secure safety and prepare for their historic move to a new stadium.
Everton’s search for a new manager reportedly included names like Graham Potter and José Mourinho. Potter opted to join West Ham earlier this week, while Mourinho distanced himself from the role.
In the interim, club legend Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman took charge for a morale-boosting FA Cup victory over Peterborough, but the task of steering Everton forward now firmly rests with Moyes.
