Where does KDB go next?
The Egyptian superstar proved himself again.
With all the benefits, the best choice is clear.
Kevin De Bruyne has refused to rule out joining one of Manchester City's Premier League rivals when he departs the Etihad this summer as a free agent. The Belgian maestro, who recently confirmed his exit after nine trophy-laden years, dropped the bombshell that he could yet remain in English football.
Since arriving in 2015, the 33-year-old has cemented his status as one of the Premier League's all-time greats, racking up 16 major trophies, 71 goals, and a staggering 119 assists in 282 appearances. Though injuries have hampered him in recent seasons, his man-of-the-match display in City's 5-2 comeback win over Crystal Palace on Saturday proved he's still a force of nature.
While MLS (Inter Miami) and the Saudi Pro League have been heavily linked, De Bruyne hinted at a potential Premier League stay in a candid interview with Viaplay Football:
"There’s always a challenge. I don’t know what’s happening next season. If a club convinces me they’ve got a proper project, I’ll listen. I know I’m not a kid anymore, but I can still perform at the top level. Football’s my passion—if the right opportunity comes and my family’s happy, we’ll decide."
Pressed on whether his time in England was over, he added: "Honestly? No idea. This decision’s still fresh. Nothing gets sorted in a week in football. I need to speak to my family first—then we’ll see who actually wants me."
A move to a direct rival would be seismic. Could Arsenal or Chelsea tempt him with a marquee midfield role? Would Liverpool see him as a short-term successor to Thiago? Or might an ambitious project like Newcastle or Spurs take a punt? De Bruyne didn't name a club he prefers, but he can shock everyone by staying in the Premier League.
