The highly publicized Premier League investigation into Manchester City’s 115 charges has reportedly concluded. The inquiry revolves around the multiple financial breaches and the non-cooperation of the current English champions.
Proceedings began on September 16 at London’s Dispute Resolution Centre and the public were kept in the shadows throughout. That’s until the hearings ended last Friday, December 6. The verdict will be revealed in the coming months by a special three-man panel.
Additionally, the 115 charges have risen to 130 in total. Reportedly, the review of the eight-time champs will shake the league's landscape. Some of the heaviest punishment to City namely being relegation, point deduction, and financial penalties.
However, due to the complexities of court proceedings, experts predict the final ruling might be announced at the end of the season.
The charges relate to a 14-year span where the Premie League says the Abu Dhabi-backed club made their wrongdoings. Among these accusation are failure to report accurate financial information for nine seasons from 2009-10 and 2017-18. Reports also showed City failed to provide full details into championship manager Robert Mancini’s pay between 2009-10 and 2012-13.
It can be remembered the issue first sparked after a German publication divulged City’s unscrupulous practices via an informant — triggering an unprecedented controversy in Europe’s top league.
Pep Guardiola and City’s management have been mum on the issue and are keen on focusing on the league - which seems to be slipping out of their hands as they sit last in the top four with a horrendous showing in November.
Manchester City’s defense is led by Lord Pannick, while the prosecutor is represented by senior barrister Adamic Lewis KC.
