Mohamed Salah has set his sights on ending his Liverpool career on a high, aiming to secure a second Premier League title for the club before his contract expires at the end of the season.
Salah’s Determination
The 32-year-old is in scintillating form, leading the Premier League in both goals (17) and assists (13) this season. With Liverpool sitting six points clear at the top of the table and a game in hand, Salah is determined to leave a lasting legacy at Anfield.
"The first thing that was on the list was to win the Premier League with Liverpool. In my interviews over the last seven or eight years, I always say [I want to win the] Champions League. But this is the first time I'm saying I really want to win the Premier League with Liverpool."
Reflecting on Liverpool's 2020 title win, he added:
"We waited for that title for 30 years or so. To win it during the pandemic, we didn’t really have time to celebrate it properly. Hopefully, we can do it this year and celebrate it the right way."
Legacy on the Line
Under Jürgen Klopp, Salah has won nearly every major trophy, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and more. However, he believes this Liverpool team, which still features key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, and Andy Robertson, needs a second Premier League title to cement its legacy.
"We've won almost everything, but we've won the Premier League once. Hopefully, we can win it twice, which would be great," Salah explained.
He also stressed the importance of leaving Anfield on a triumphant note:
"My motivation this year was to win a trophy and be a big part of it, especially the Premier League. It’s necessary for us to win another trophy before we all go."
Uncertain Future
Salah’s performances this season have sparked rumours about his future, with the Egyptian confirming he is "far away" from agreeing a new deal. Back in September, he admitted, "This is my last year at Liverpool," and reiterated on Sunday that there have been no new talks regarding his expiring contract.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract this summer, but Salah’s form and leadership have kept him at the forefront of Liverpool’s title charge.
What’s Next?
Liverpool face Manchester United next in a massive Super Sunday clash that could extend their lead at the top. For Salah, every game is another step towards achieving his goal of delivering one last piece of silverware to the Anfield faithful.
Whether or not this is his swan song, Salah’s determination to leave Liverpool as champions is clear—and the Premier League title may just be his perfect farewell gift.
