Chelsea and Manchester United are deep in discussions over two major transfers involving Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling, with both clubs looking to shake up their squads before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday.
Sancho to Chelsea?
Jadon Sancho, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund after a falling out with Erik ten Hag, is now being eyed by Chelsea. Although Sancho hasn’t featured in the Premier League this season, United are in no rush to replace him, given their depth in attacking options. However, a move to Stamford Bridge could give Sancho the fresh start he needs.
Juventus are also keen on Sancho, proposing a straight loan deal. As discussions continue, the decision rests with United and Sancho, with all options still on the table.
Sterling to United?
In a surprising twist, Chelsea have offered Raheem Sterling as part of their approach for Sancho. Sterling, who is no longer in Enzo Maresca’s plans at Chelsea, has been training away from the first team and was stripped of his squad number. The former Liverpool and Manchester City star is eager to stay in the Premier League, and a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards.
United, while interested, need to ensure that any deal for Sterling makes financial sense, particularly given his £300,000-a-week wages. The possibility of a swap deal involving Sancho and Sterling is being seriously considered, with various options like a loan, a loan with an obligation to buy, or a permanent transfer all being discussed.
Chilwell Out of the Picture
Ben Chilwell, another player Chelsea have offered in their approach for Sancho, has been ruled out as a priority for United, especially after the signing of Noussair Mazraoui, who can cover both full-back positions. Chilwell, who was Chelsea’s vice-captain last season, is part of a group of players not in Maresca’s plans and is training away from the first team.
As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on whether these blockbuster deals will materialise, with both clubs looking to finalise their squads for the season ahead.
